I suspect they haven't upgraded the plugin but just upgraded the reader.
EDIT: As pointed out below, it's possible they just added the functionality they needed to in the latest version of the reader.
An Exact Match pattern doesn't find the version with 9.4.0; it finds the version with the exact search term 9.4.0. So it looks like it's using the "sort by" feature that Adobe has added to the newest version of Acrobat Reader.
If you install Acrobat Reader 9.4.0 it will continue to find older versions of the plugin, but also the newer version if installed.

If you're running Adobe Reader version 9.4.0 and the plugin does not load, I've come across this issue many times. The simplest way to resolve this is to install Adobe Reader version 9.4.1, it's the last working version for Mac and Windows:
Alternatively, you could update the plugin manually. This can be done by downloading the Acrobat Reader plugin installer from (choose "Install in Acrobat" and select the version of Acrobat Reader you are using).
